I woke up the next morning in Garrett’s bed. How many times had we had sex last night? I truly couldn’t remember. It had been a lot. Each time somehow more incredible than the one before.
Garrett told me before we finally fell asleep that he wanted me to stay the weekend—so he’d be on hand to help me out with anything I might need. He’d said that last bit with a wink.
But part of me couldn’t help but wonder—hope—that maybe he wanted to keep me all to himself. That he didn’t want anyone else around his mate in heat. And that even after my heat was over, he still might want me all to himself. In every way.
We hadn’t talked about what happened. Not really. I wasn’t sure how to broach the subject. I didn’t know Garrett’s stance on fated mates, or how badly his wolf wanted mine. But I didn’t let myself dwell on it. Maybe everything would work out just fine and I had nothing to worry about.
Even though I still wasn’t sure where we went from here.
I wandered from the bedroom in nothing but a pair of sweatpants I found folded neatly on Garrett’s bedside table, presumably laid out there for me. Garrett was sitting at a massive workstation that took up a large part of his living room. I hadn’t even paid attention to his home last night. We’d stumbled in, hands all over each other, and made our way straight to his bedroom.
I took it all in now. The large open-concept living areas blending together nicely in shades of warm gray, beige and pale peach. His entertainment system was state of the art. Of course.
I was surprised Garrett didn’t live in the city. Instead, he a large modern house on the outskirts of Hunter’s Haven. But I guessed it made sense. Shifters didn’t like to feel too closed in.
I made my way to the large floor-to-ceiling window that encompassed the entire back wall of rooms that flowed together seamlessly. With the sun now halfway up the sky, I could see for miles and miles. His house was situated on a hill that overlooked the rolling mountains beyond. It was breathtaking.
“Hey, look who decided to join the world of the living.” Garret’s voice drifted through the room from his workstation. I turned to find him in a large leather chair he’d spun around to face me, his legs kicked out in front of him and his hands behind his head like he had all the time in the world.
His gaze roved over my body, and he did nothing to try to hide it. A slow grin crept over his face.
“My clothes look good on you.”
I looked down, smiling like an idiot. “Um, yeah. Thanks for that.”
I wasn’t sure how to act. Was it going to be an awkward morning after? Did Garrett regret what we’d done when he’d previously made it so clear that we couldn’t go down this road?
The look on his face certainly didn’t appear that way.
